Berlin, March 20 (QNA) - German auto industry exports saw a rise in 2024, despite challenges, as the primary destination was the US, which is threatening to impose new tariffs.

The German Federal Statistical Office reported today that approximately 3.4 million new cars were exported in 2024, with a total value of EUR 135 billion. This represents a 2.5 percent increase in volume compared to 2023, while the export value declined by 1.3 percent.

The US was the largest market for German car exports, accounting for 13.1 percent of total exports, followed by the UK with 11.3 percent, and France with 7.4 percent.

On the other hand, Germany’s imports of new cars in 2024 decreased by 11.5 percent in volume and 12.8 percent in value, with approximately 1.8 million cars imported.

US President Donald Trump had recently threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on cars imported from the European Union.

The US currently imposes a 2.5 percent tariff on car imports from the EU. (QNA)
