Qatar Participates in 28th Session of Arab Charter for Human Rights Committee
Cairo, December 03 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has participated in the 28th Session of the Arab Charter for Human Rights Committee, convened Wednesday at the Headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat in Cairo.
This convention aims to discuss the second periodic report of the State of Kuwait as part of the committee's 66th meeting.
The State of Qatar is represented by Second Secretary at the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the Arab League, Mohammed Salem Al Khawar.
The session discusses the breakthrough the State of Kuwait has made in living up to its legal obligations based on the Arab Charter for Human Rights, including the charter's aims, the right to life and physical integrity, equality and non‑discrimination, civil and political rights, and the prohibition of slavery and human trafficking.
This is alongside access to justice and the right to effective remedy, the right to freedom of opinion and expression, the right to health and the right to education, and the protection of the family, especially women and children, as core pillars in line with the provisions of the Arab Charter on Human Rights.
In a statement, the Arab League highlighted that the State of Kuwait submitted the second periodic report to the Secretary-General of the Arab League in March 2025, which outlines the measures Kuwait had taken to reinvigorate rights and freedoms enshrined in the charter since its accession.
This is in addition to the actions taken regarding the observations and recommendations issued by the committee following the review of its first periodic report.
The sessions convene in the presence of a variety of permanent delegations to the Arab League, alongside the Arab Parliament, the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, national human rights institutions, and civil society organizations.
