Doha, December 25 (QNA) – Qatari weightlifter Wissal Yakhlef shone on the sixth day of competition at the three combined championships: the 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup 2025, the Arab Championships for youth, junior, and senior categories, and the West Asian Championships for the same age groups.

These events, organized by the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, continue until tomorrow, Friday.

Wissal secured nine gold medals in the over 86 kg category, with three medals at the Qatar International Cup, three at the Arab Championships, and three at the West Asian Championships.

The Qatari weightlifter delivered an outstanding performance, lifting 116 kg in the snatch, 161 kg in the clean and jerk, and achieving a total weight of 277 kg.

In the over 86 kg category at the 10th Qatar International Weightlifting Cup, Wissal triumphed over both Thailand's Supachanen Khamheng, who won three silver medals in the snatch (111 kg), clean and jerk (146 kg), and total (257 kg), and South Korea's Lee Hyun, who secured three bronze medals in the snatch (101 kg), clean and jerk (125 kg), and total (226 kg).

At the Arab Championships, the Qatari weightlifter outperformed both Algerian Amina Mamoun Yahya, who won three silver medals in the snatch (102 kg), the clean and jerk (129 kg), and the total (231 kg), and Egyptian Shams Mohamed Ahmed, who secured three bronze medals in the snatch (101 kg), the clean and jerk (128 kg), and the total (229 kg).

In the West Asian Championships, the Qatari weightlifter won three gold medals, achieving remarkable results, particularly in the clean and jerk, where she lifted 161 kg, surpassing her previous record of 160 kg.

Qatari weightlifter Wissal Yakhlef expressed her delight at achieving this remarkable milestone in her athletic career, having won nine gold medals across the three combined championships in Doha, particularly after breaking her previous record in the clean and jerk.

In a press statement, Yakhlef said, "This achievement marks a significant milestone in my athletic career, especially given the fierce competition in my weight class from champions from South Korea, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan."

She added that this success is due to the tremendous support she receives from the Qatar Weightlifting Federation, headed by HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Mohammed bin Yousef Al Mana.

She also noted her commitment to further development in order to achieve even greater success in upcoming competitions and raise the Qatari flag at various international events.

Wissal noted that this victory was the latest in a series of successes she has achieved recently, highlighting her outstanding performance and the three medals she won for Qatar at the Islamic Solidarity Games – Riyadh 2025.

The Qatari weightlifter emphasized her high ambitions for future achievements, stating her commitment to continued hard work and dedication to ongoing technical and mental development, strong competition in upcoming events, and representing Qatar in the best possible way at both the continental and international levels.
