Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Strikes Chile
Santiago, December 16 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 4.5آ on the Richter scale struck Chile on Tuesday.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said in a statement that the epicenter of the quake was located 26 kilometers southeast of Copiapo in northwestern Chile, at a depth of 92.2 kilometers.
In 2010, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake followed by a tsunami struck central and southern Chile, killing 500 people.
Chile is located in an area called the Ring of Fire, an arc of faults surrounding the Pacific Ocean basin, and is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. (QNA)
