DIBF Cultural Salon Showcases New Literary and Scientific Releases
Doha, May 16 (QNA) - The Cultural Salon at the Doha International Book Fair (DIBF) showcased on Saturday a selection of new literary and scientific works, whose launch alongside the fair reflected the dynamism and diversity of the cultural and knowledge landscape.
The texts covered a wide range of themes, including fiction, human reflection, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and contemporary legal and social issues.
In the literary section, the novel 'The Secret of the Crescent' by Qatari author Faisal Al Ansari, published by Arab Scientific Publishers, was launched.
Framed in a historical narrative style, it traces the life and intellectual legacy of the scholar Muhammad ibn Jabir Al Battani, one of the most renowned astronomers and mathematicians of the Abbasid era, while also depicting the ideological conflicts and accusations he faced due to his scientific inquiries, particularly his studies of celestial bodies, eclipses, and other astronomical phenomena.
The narrative also revisits the figure of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Ansari, known as 'Hamil Al Hilal', recognized among Qatar's leading scholars, founder of a religious institute, and author of the nation's earliest calendrical system.
In an epic literary context, Qatari novelist Shamma Shaheen Al Kuwari unveiled her trilogy 'The Bronze Statue Trilogy', published by Qantra Publishing and Distribution.
Spanning more than a thousand pages, the trilogy reconstructs the atmosphere of ancient civilizations and primordial mythologies, where questions of good and evil, immortality, love, and power intersect.
It blends epic narrative with philosophical reflection, reimagining the emergence of human civilization, language, and early consciousness through a fictional world inspired by Sumerian heritage and ancient epics.
Writer Mashael Mohammed Ali also launched her book 'The Trace… Indeed, Man Is a Trace', published by Al-Wattad Publishing and Printing.
The work presents a reflective collection of essays exploring the imprint individuals leave on others, emphasizing the value of kind words and sincere emotions in an age of accelerating relationships and fading human detail.
It guides readers through reflections on relationships, disappointment, generosity, contentment, and hope, advancing the idea that a person endures through the lasting impact of their actions rather than their transient presence.
The salon also witnessed the launch of 'Technology of Skills: Transferring and Embedding Digital Skills' by Abdullah Al Sahlout, a business and technology development expert, and engineer Abdulrahman Khamis, inventor and entrepreneur, published by the Qatar Scientific Club.
The book delves deep into the profound digital transformations reshaping the world and calls for a redefinition of the concept of "skills" in the age of artificial intelligence and smart technologies.
It primarily focuses on transforming digital competencies from theoretical knowledge into practical, practice-based capabilities embedded within professional environments, while addressing education, training, and digital transformation across Qatar and the wider Gulf, alongside applied models linking skills to institutional realities and labor market needs.
Another publication, 'Digital Impact: Sustainable Community Digital Leadership', by Abdullah Al Sahlout and Ali Al Suwaidi, explores community-based digital leadership and the role of technology in generating sustainable social and developmental impact. It emphasizes digital equity, community empowerment, and the narrowing of technological and knowledge gaps.
The genre showcases a vision that combines theory with practice through applied frameworks covering smart cities, education, healthcare, environmental development, and economic empowerment, while underscoring the importance of ethical, human-centered digital solutions that safeguard privacy and uphold justice.
In the legal domain, Dr. Mabkhout Al Bufurayh Al Marri launched two works: 'A Concise Guide to the Remote Employment Contract' and 'Artificial Intelligence in Labor Law', both addressing recent transformations in the workplace and the legal challenges arising from smart technologies and remote work systems.
The latter examines the influence of AI on hiring patterns, professional decision-making, and performance evaluation, alongside issues of algorithmic bias, legal liability, and workers' rights in the context of automated decision-making systems. The former compiles legal articles addressing key legislative developments and contemporary challenges in labor relations, combining accessibility with analytical depth.
The latest publications reflect the breadth of intellectual, literary, and scientific engagement at the fair -from questions of identity, memory, and the human condition to digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and modern legal frameworks-affirming the fair's continued role as a platform for cultural dialogue and for anticipating future transformations.
