Doha 2026 Gulf Games: Qatari Table Tennis Stars Win Two Medals
Doha, May 16 (QNA) - Qatari table tennis stars secured two medals – a gold and a bronze – in the mixed doubles category on the penultimate day of the competition at the ongoing 4th Gulf Games in Doha, which will continue until May 22.
The Qatari duo of Mohammed Abdulwahab and Aya Mohammed won the gold medal after defeating the Emirati pair of Ali Al Hawai and Noura Al Maazmi 3-0 in the final.
In the mixed doubles category, the Qatari pair of Abdullah Abdulwahab and Mariam Ali secured third place and the bronze medal after defeating the Bahraini duo of Rashid Khalid and Rayan Emad 3-0 in the third-place match.
The tournament continues tomorrow with the third-place matches for the men's and women's singles and men's doubles categories, followed by the men's singles final, an all-Saudi affair, as well as the women's singles final between Qatar's Aya Mohammed and Mariam Ali. The men's doubles final will then feature Qatar's Mohammed Abdulwahab and Abdullah Abdulwahab against Saudi Arabia's Ali Al Khadrawi and Abdulaziz Boushlibi. The table tennis competitions at the Gulf Games will conclude with the crowning of the winners in all categories.
Chairperson of the Bahrain Table Tennis Association Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa affirmed that the atmosphere of the Gulf Games (Doha 2026) reflects the significant progress achieved by Gulf sports, praising the high level of skill displayed in the table tennis competitions, which were characterized by intense rivalry and excitement among all participating teams.
In a press statement, she said that the Gulf sports gathering always holds a special value that transcends mere competition, as it embodies the spirit of brotherhood and love among the people of the Gulf countries. The slogan "One Gulf, One Heart" chosen by the organizing committee truly expressed this spirit and resonated with all participants, she noted.
She lauded the exceptional organization of the tournament, emphasizing that the hosting was of a high professional standard, both in terms of facilities and organizational and administrative aspects. This contributed to providing an ideal environment for athletes to perform at their best. Qatar consistently organizes tournaments brilliantly, she said, while commending the large audience turnout and enthusiastic engagement with the competitions, considering it a reflection of the event's importance and standing on the Gulf sports scene.
She added that the table tennis competitions witnessed a clear convergence of skill levels that increased the intensity and difficulty of the matches, affirming that all players are competing for medals and presenting a positive image of Gulf table tennis, which gave the tournament significant technical value and a distinguished level of competition.
