QPO to Present "Crossing Cultures" Saturday at Katara Opera House
Doha, October 29 (QNA) - The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) announced Wednesday that it will perform a musical program titled "Crossing Cultures" on Saturday, at the Katara Opera House.
The concert will be conducted by Maestro David Navarro Turres and will feature Sonja Park, the first Steinway artist in the Middle East.
The program includes a diverse selection of contemporary works influenced by regional culture, notably featuring the world premiere of a piano and orchestra composition by Dr. Nasserآ Sahim.
The first movement of Dr. Nasser Suhaim's Piano Concerto No. 1, QPO's Deputy Executive Director, combines Arabic melodies with classical structures, where a sense of nostalgia intertwines harmoniously with the musical theme. Eastern motifs evolve into a universal language that resonates with humanity in all its forms.
The concerto is distinguished by its dramatic and poetic elements. It opens with reflective and classical dialogues between the orchestra and the piano, yet its Eastern essence and Arabic emotion quickly emerge through the melodic lines, creating a unique identity that blends European classical traditions with authentic Arab spirit.
The program also features "Desert Song" by composer Claude Ledoux. This piece evokes vast and enchanting desert landscapes, musically narrating the fusion of Eastern sounds with vibrant French-inspired explorations, transporting the audience to cinematic musical tableaux.
Additionally, the audience will enjoy Piano Concerto No. 1 by Omar Rahbani, which elegantly merges various Baroque music styles inspired by composers such as Bach and Vivaldi, alongside Indian rhythms known as konnakol and Brazilian influences, all while preserving the Lebanese and Eastern essence through its melodic expressions. This work showcases a rich array of instruments, from piano and string quintet to percussion.
The program further includes "Prayer for Peace" by Donatas Bukauskas, inviting listeners into a serene yet profound musical experience, with the composition dedicated to the theme of peace.
The remainder of the concert features "Sounds of Baghdad" by Qutaiba Nuaimi, a work expressing his longing for his hometown. (QNA)
