Arab League, DIFI Convene to Finalize Regional Marriage Preparation Guide
Cairo, October 16 (QNA) - The Arab League, in partnership with Qatar Foundation's Doha International Family Institute (DIFI) and Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has launched a two-day expert meeting in Cairo to review and finalize the regional guide for premarital preparation programs across the Arab world.
The meeting, held at the Arab League headquarters, brought together senior officials including DIFI Executive Director Dr. Sharifa Al Emadi, HE Qatar's Ambassador to Egypt and permanent delegate to the Arab League Tariq Al Ansari, and representatives from Arab ministries, civil society, and regional family affairs experts.
The initiative aims to develop a scientifically grounded guide that supports premarital counseling and education programs, reflecting a recommendation from a joint 2019–2024 report assessing marital relationships in the Arab region.
This guide will serve as a unified framework to enhance cooperation among governmental and non-governmental institutions working on family stability.
In his remarks, HE Ambassador Al Ansari stressed the importance of adopting the scientifically grounded guide, which will serve as a roadmap for both governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in family and youth affairs.
"This guide reflects the strong partnership between Qatar, the Arab League, and DIFI," His Excellency said. "It represents a regional effort to promote family stability and build cohesive, resilient Arab societies".
His Excellency highlighted that the initiative aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030 and its commitment to inclusive and sustainable social development.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al Emadi described the guide as a pivotal step toward creating programs that support long-term marital stability in the region. "The goal is to encourage open, evidence-based dialogue that results in a shared regional vision for stronger Arab families," she said.
She noted that the guide was developed in response to research showing rising early divorce rates, and that it aims to bridge the gap between current practices and evidence-based strategies. She also highlighted DIFI's ongoing work to build a knowledge base around Arab family life through a biannual series on the state of the family in the Arab world, launched in 2017.
The guide also aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030, which prioritizes social development, family cohesion, and the protection of all citizens through comprehensive social welfare systems.
This collaborative effort reflects the shared goal of enhancing family resilience across the Arab world through informed policies and regional cooperation. (QNA)
