Doha, December 09 (QNA) - Qatar's Ministry of Labour has held an extensive consultative meeting bringing together labour attaches and leaders of expatriate communities as part of the country's wider efforts to combat human trafficking and raise awareness among workers.

The meeting, organised by the National Committee for Combating Human Trafficking (NCCHT), aimed to reinforce cooperation between government bodies, diplomatic missions, consular representatives and community organisations. Officials said the goal is to build stronger joint mechanisms to prevent trafficking and ensure that workers understand their rights.

Discussions focused on the role of the Ministry of Interior in field coordination and preventive measures, alongside the Public Prosecution's work in protecting victims, safeguarding their legal rights and ensuring justice is served.

The NCCHT presented an overview of its activities, including efforts to enhance national coordination and its supervision of awareness and training programmes targeted at relevant institutions.

According to the Ministry of Labour, the consultative meeting forms part of broader government efforts to unify action among national authorities, diplomatic missions, labour-related organisations and civil society groups. Officials said it also supports cooperation with regional and international partners in addressing trafficking, strengthening human rights protections and improving response mechanisms.

The ministry reiterated that Qatar's anti-trafficking policies are grounded in Islamic principles, the constitution and national laws, all of which prohibit practices that undermine human dignity. (QNA)
