Doha, March 02 (QNA) - Al Shamal defeated Qatar SC 3-0 in Week 16 of the 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League at the Al Duhail Stadium on Thursday.
Yacine Bammou (38th minute), Amjad Atwan (73rd minute) and Matias Nani (86th minute penalty) scored the goals as Al Shamal moved on to 14 points from as many matches following their fourth victory.
Qatar SC remained on 23 points after suffering their sixth defeat.
It may be recalled that Qatar SC had beaten Al Shamal 1-0 in the first leg of 2022-2023 season QNB Stars League.
Wesam Rizik-coached Al Shamal, who had played out a goalless draw with Al Wakrah in their postponed match from Week 8 after losing 2-3 to Al Gharafa in Week 15, thus compensated for the dropped points. Qatar SC had an upper hand initially, but could not translate that into a goal.
Qatar SC, whose defender Ibrahim Majed left the field due to an injury and was replaced by Khaled Mahmoudi in the 23rd minute, launched successive attacks through the flanks, especially right by Bashar Resan, who crossed the ball in the 29th minute and Jassim Al Jalabi headed it next to the right post.
At the other end, Al Shamal succeeded in taking the lead through Bammou following a corner kick from the left. The Moroccans shot hit the Qatar SC defenders before going in.
Qatar SC pressed hard at the start of second half and made their second substitution, with an injured Resan being replaced by Swedish player Nabil Bahoui.
However, Al Shamal made inroads into the rival territory with their game plan and managed to score twice more, through Atwan (off a counter-attack) and Argentinian defender Nani (off a penalty kick). (QNA)
