Doha, December 18 (QNA) - Argentina won the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 following a 4-2 victory on penalties after the 120-minute game ended in a 3-3 draw at Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Argentina in the 23rd minute. Angel Di Maria added the second for Albiceleste in the 36th minute.

In the second half, Kylian Mbappe scored a brace in the 80th minute -from the penalty spot, and 81st minute to level the game for France.

In the extra-time, Messi netted the third goal for Argentina in the 109th minute. But, Mbappe leveled the game again from the penalty spot in the 118th minute.

Argentina's goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez saved a penalty from Kingsley Coman and France's Aurelien Tchouameni penalty went out of wide as Argentina won the shoot-outs 4-2 to capture the World Cup trophy. (QNA)
