European Stocks Close Higher
Brussels, February 9 (QNA) - European stock indices rose at the close of trading Monday, buoyed by the global market recovery following last week's sell-off, as investors assessed the earnings results of Italian bank UniCredit and developments in mergers and acquisitions.
The pan-European Stoxx 600 index climbed 0.4 percent to 619.94 points.
Germany's DAX index rose by approximately 0.7 percent to 24,908.41 points.
Britain's FTSE 100 index gained 0.3 percent to 10,403.78 points.
France's CAC 40 index also rose, gaining 0.2 percent to 8,291.03 points.
Global stocks recovered from a volatile period last week, driven by concerns that new artificial intelligence models could disrupt traditional software businesses, despite major companies like Alphabet and Amazon announcing new investment plans to develop the technology.
Last Friday's recovery helped the Stoxx index post weekly gains, although uncertainty surrounding the technology sector remained on investors' minds, with the technology sector rising 1%.
The basket of European bank stocks remained among the best performers, up 1%, but aerospace and defense stocks led the way, rising 1.5%. (QNA)
