India Tightens Control on Wheat Export
New Delhi, May 31 - (QNA) - The Indian Ministry of Commerce announced the tightening of controls on wheat export restrictions, and instructed regional authorities to effectively examine all documents related to wheat export.
In a statement, the ministry added that this step aims to fill a loophole in this regard, and to reach the expired documents.
India is the second largest producer of wheat in the world, after China, and the export ban which it imposed in mid-May led to a state of uncertainty in the global market.
It is noteworthy that Ukraine and Russia are major wheat-exporting countries, but recently witnessed a shortage in supply, and a rise in prices due to the war.
India produces about 100 million tons of wheat annually, but has not exported any shipments of the crop so far.(QNA)
