Doha, June 30 (QNA) - The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal' has announced the commencement of the Qatar Aeronautical Academy Development Project in Ras Bu Abboud, as part of its ongoing efforts to develop advanced educational and training infrastructure in line with the highest international standards. The project aims to support the preparation of highly qualified national talent capable of leading the future of the aviation sector while reinforcing Qatar's position as a regional hub for aviation, education, and specialized training.
Ashghal said that the project includes the design and construction of several facilities within the academy campus, most notably a Flight Operations and Pilot Training Building, an Air Traffic Control and Airport Operations Simulation Building, and an Aircraft Support Services Hangar at Doha International Airport. These facilities will provide an integrated training environment aligned with the highest international standards.
In addition, the project includes the renovation and expansion of student accommodation facilities to increase capacity and improve living standards, as well as the development of a comprehensive master plan that ensures optimal use of space and seamless movement throughout the campus.
It added that the project will also incorporate upgrades to infrastructure and building systems in accordance with the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS), including enhanced energy and water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and the implementation of smart solutions that reduce environmental impact and improve long-term operational efficiency.
Engineer Dana Sulaiman Al Hammadi stated that the Qatar Aeronautical Academy Development Project has been designed in line with the latest international standards and will support the advancement of aviation training programmes in the State of Qatar. She noted that the project aims to provide an integrated training environment that meets the highest international requirements for pilot qualification, particularly the standards of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
She added that the project includes the construction of a new Air Traffic Control (ATC) Simulation Building with an area of approximately 1,902 square metres. The two-storey facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art simulation and training systems. The project also includes the construction of a Student Activities Building covering approximately 1,000 square metres, providing an integrated environment that combines educational and recreational facilities. Furthermore, the works include the refurbishment of the student accommodation buildings, covering a total area of approximately 2,200 square metres, to increase accommodation capacity and enhance the quality of student facilities.
The project also includes the construction of a new Aircraft Support Services Hangar at Doha International Airport, comprising a 2,047-square-metre hangar and 647 square metres of office space. The facility will feature a steel structural frame on a reinforced concrete foundation with a minimum height of 8 metres, and will be equipped with advanced ventilation systems that meet aircraft maintenance and operational requirements. The hangar will accommodate integrated facilities including aircraft storage bays, administrative and technical offices, specialised storage areas, aircraft and avionics maintenance workshops, operations rooms, technical records facilities, as well as dedicated training and meeting rooms.
The project reflects Ashghal's commitment to delivering strategic infrastructure projects in accordance with the highest standards of quality and efficiency by adopting international best practices in design and construction, ensuring the highest levels of safety and sustainability, and delivering projects in line with approved schedules, thereby supporting the State's development aspirations and enhancing infrastructure across key sectors.
