Beijing, January 29 (QNA) - Scientists from Anhui Medical University in China have devised a new coating that protects teeth from cavities, which is a greasy coating of natural materials, which prevents cavities and helps restore dental health. Scientists used natural mechanisms to prevent tooth decay, because the tooth enamel layer does not restore itself, but is damaged by mechanical effects or microbes.

Nature has produced non-bad mechanism to protect teeth, which is in the form of peptides in the saliva of the mouth, these peptides cover the teeth with a membrane that prevents microbes from reaching them. But the current diet that contains a high content of sugars causes a significant increase in the multiplication of microbes, which makes the natural membrane unable to protect the teeth to the required level. So scientists decided under the leadership of Quan Li to invent the anti-decay H5-based peptide coating, which is produced by the salivary glands, and this new substance prevents bacteria from settling the surface of the teeth, reduces the damage of tooth enamel and works to protect it.

Scientists pointed out that tooth enamel is able to absorb the H5 peptide, which helps eliminate many types of bacteria and fungi, and to stimulate it, scientists added at one end of its molecule a group of phosphoserine, which according to them attract more calcium ions to restore tooth enamel, more than the H5 peptide itself. The test of this coating on teeth has shown that it absorbs better by the teeth, combats microbes for a longer period and protects teeth from cavities, and when applying a thick layer periodically, the microbes die before they reach the enamel.

Scientists have called their innovation peptide coating and this coating does not treat teeth and does not fill cavities, but it successfully eliminates their causes. According to the data of the World Health Organization, tooth decay is the most prevalent non-infectious disease worldwide, and the traditional treatment for this disease includes removing decay and then filling the resulting void with special materials.
