Al Arabi SC Signs French Player Jordan Veretout from Lyon
Doha, July 25 (QNA) - Al Arabi SC announced Friday the signing of French player Jordan Veretout from Olympique Lyonnais, to join the first football team starting with the new season.
The club confirmed, in a statement on its official website, that Veretout signed a two-year contract, in a deal expected to be a strong addition to the team as they seek to return to competing for titles.
Veretout's move to Al Arabi comes one season before the end of his contract with Lyon, which runs until the summer of 2026.
He joined the club after a first season during which he played 27 matches with the team in the French League, scoring two goals.
He also participated in nine matches in the Europa League and two matches in the French Cup.
Veretout joined Lyon from Marseille, which he joined from Serie A, where he had played for Roma and Fiorentina.
He won the Europa Conference League with Roma in 2021.
Internationally, Veretout has made six appearances for the French national team since joining in 2021, and was part of the squad that reached the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final.
He also won the UEFA Nations League with his country that same year.
Veretout's signing is Al Arabi's third foreign professional signing during the current transfer window, following the signing of Spanish striker Pablo Sarabia and Kenyan striker Michael Olunga, who joined the team after his contract with Al Duhail expired.
Al Arabi are currently holding a training camp in Valencia, Spain, in preparation for the new season, which began on July 15 and will continue until August 3. (QNA)
