Global Media Highlights HH the Amir’s UN Speech
Capitals, September 24 (QNA) - Global media outlets highlighted the speech delivered by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, at the opening session of the 80th United Nations General Assembly held Tuesday at the organization’s headquarters in New York.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) website published extensive excerpts from HH the Amir’s speech, quoting His Highness as saying that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to turn the Arab region into an Israeli sphere of influence, in reference to the Israeli aggression that targeted residential premises of members of Hamas’ political bureau in Doha on September 9.
The BBC website quoted HH the Amir saying that Doha was subjected to "a grave violation of a state’s sovereignty, and a blatant, unjustified breach of international norms and conventions. However, the entire world was also shocked by the circumstances of this heinous act, which we branded as state terrorism."
The site also highlighted HH the Amir’s description of the Israeli bombing as "an assault on a mediating, peace-making state whose diplomacy has been devoted to resolving conflicts through peaceful means, and has been making strenuous efforts for two years to achieve a settlement to halt the genocidal war waged against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip," referring to Qatar’s mediation with Egypt and the United States, which resulted in the release of 148 hostages.
It also noted HH the Amir’s affirmation: "We have been engaged in arduous mediation to stop the war, grantee humanitarian aid flow, and secure the release of hostages and detainees. We have faced disinformation campaigns against our exerted efforts".
The BBC further reported HH the Amir’s statement: "No party resorts to assassinate the very delegation it is negotiating with unless its goal is to derail the negotiations," and his remark that "If the cost of freeing the Israeli hostages is ending the war, then the Israeli government is abandoning their release."
Meanwhile, CNN focused on HH the Amir’s speech, highlighting his remarks that "The fallback of this international order in favor of the logic of power means paving the way for the law of the jungle to prevail."
CNN aired video clips from HH the Amir’s speech, in which His Highness emphasized that "They visit our country while planning to bomb it; they negotiate with delegations while plotting to assassinate their members".
In its coverage, the Russian news agency Sputnik highlighted HH the Amir’s remarks at the UN General Assembly, quoting His Highness as saying: "Doha came under a treacherous attack targeting a meeting of the Hamas negotiating delegation at the residence of one of its members in a residential neighborhood hosting schools and diplomatic missions."
Sputnik also focused on HH the Amir’s statement that constitutes an assault on a mediating, peace-making state whose diplomacy has been devoted to resolving conflicts through peaceful means."
The agency further cited HH the Amir’s criticism of the Israeli government, quoting: "If the cost of freeing the Israeli hostages is ending the war, then the Israeli government is abandoning their release. Its real objective is to destroy Gaza". (QNA)
