Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Strikes Indonesia
Jakarta, February 24 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.5آ on the Richter scale struck West Papua province, east of Indonesia.
United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake was located 205 kilometers southeast of Abepura district, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
There have been no reports of casualties and material damage due to the earthquake so far and no tsunami warning was issued as a result.
Indonesia is regularly subjected to earthquakes, due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where several tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity. (QNA)
