Doha, November 22 (QNA) -Delegates from Qatar, the GCC and Arab region and the rest of the world attended the 4th Arab Pediatric Pulmonology Association (APPA) Congress in Doha from 17 to 19 November 2016.

Hosted by Hamad Medical Corporation, (HMC), the events delivered valuable medical updates and scientific insights into children’s lung health and provided a unique opportunity for delegates to network with their peers and learn from their varying experiences in different countries. "It has been an honour for HMC to host this year’s congress," said Professor Ibrahim A Janahi Senior Consultant and Division Chief, Pediatric Pulmonology at HMC and founding member of APPA.. "Each year the congress goes from strength to strength and the quality of speakers and program for this year’s event was exceptional," he explained.

The APPA congress is one of the leading events of its kind in the GCC and Arab world. Each year, leaders in the field of pediatric pulmonology come together to share the latest medical updates and research on the most important topics. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr. Nemr Eid, Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, Kentucky. In his presentation, Dr. Eid highlighted the benefits of impulse oscillometry, a specialist technique for measuring lung function Other presentations focused on other topics including cystic fibrosis, childhood asthma and lower respiratory illnesses. "Pediatric pulmonology is an area of great importance in the Arab world. Asthma, chronic coughing and respiratory problems are all prevalent in the region and can adversely affect the daily lives of many children. Events such as the APPA congress provide a valuable opportunity for experts from across the region to come together and work towards our shared goal of providing the best possible care for children with lung conditions," explained Prof Janahi.

Chair of this year’s Organizing Committee and Senior Consultant of Pediatric Pulmonology at HMC, Dr. Muna Maarafiya, highlighted the success of this year’s congress: "On behalf of the 2016 organizing committee, I would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the congress such a success. The knowledge and ideas shared over the course of the three days in Doha will provide great momentum for the coming months ahead and, hopefully, lead to care advances in the field of pediatric pulmonology," she said.(QNA)
