Meta Shares Quest Operating System with Competitors
Washington, April 23 (QNA) - Meta announced that it will share its virtual operating system headset (Quest) with rival hardware makers, including Microsoft for the first time, as it seeks to expand its influence on the emerging virtual network and mixed reality industry.
According to Meta, this move will allow partner companies to build their own virtual glasses using Meta Horizon OS, an operating system that provides capabilities such as gesture recognition, connectivity and scene reading processes, and other possibilities offered by their virtual glasses.
The company added that partners ASUS and Lenovo will use the operating system to build hardware specially designed for specific activities, and Meta also uses it to create a limited version of the Microsoft Xbox Gaming console-inspired Quest Virtual Reality Headset.
According to Meta, ASUS' Republic of Gamers (ROG) was developing gaming headwear, and Lenovo was working on MR for productivity, learning, and entertainment, using Horizon operating system. (QNA)
