Qatar Participates in WIPO Assemblies of Member States
Geneva, April 21 (QNA) - The State of Qatar participated in the 67th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), dedicated to confirming the appointment of the Director General of the Organization, held Tuesday in Geneva.
HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva Dr. Hind Abdulrahman Al Muftah led the State of Qatar's delegation at the meeting.
In her speech on behalf of the State of Qatar during the meeting, Her Excellency voiced the State of Qatar's support for the reappointment of HE Daren Tang of Singapore as Director-General of the WIPO for a second term, commending his leadership and noting that the renewal of international confidence in him is an appreciation of his efforts in strengthening the role of the organization, especially the unprecedented diplomatic success in concluding two historic treaties in one year, namely the "Treaty on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources" and the "Design Law Treaty."
Her Excellency highlighted the bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the WIPO, stressing that the Director General's first term witnessed exceptional development in the strategic partnership between the State of Qatar and the organization.
Her Excellency appreciated the continued support for the State of Qatar's efforts to modernize the intellectual property system, which culminated in important steps, particularly working on developing the "National Intellectual Property Strategy," and the State of Qatar's accession to a number of new intellectual property agreements managed by the organization, in addition to signing memoranda of understanding to enhance academic and technical cooperation.
HE the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Office in Geneva reaffirmed the State of Qatar's firm commitment to supporting the efforts and activities of the WIPO, stressing its aspiration to consolidate this partnership in the new term in a way that contributes to establishing an effective global system that stimulates innovation and creativity, emphasizing the importance of employing intellectual property as a powerful tool to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and maximize the economic and social benefits for member states.
