Geneva, April 21 (QNA) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said nearly 8,000 migrants died or went missing during migration attempts worldwide in 2025, bringing the total since 2014 to more than 82,000.

The agency noted that at least 340,000 family members have been directly affected. It said migration routes are shifting due to conflict, climate pressures, and political changes, rather than becoming safer, with risks remaining extremely high.

The IOM stressed that behind the figures are people facing dangerous journeys and families awaiting news that often never comes, warning that recent data shows 2026 is already among the deadliest years in the Mediterranean route since records began. (QNA)
