Massive Wildfires Erupt in Southern France Near Martigues
Paris, July 18 (QNA) - Large wildfires broke out in a forested area in southern France near the coastal city of Martigues, close to Marseille, causing extensive damage as firefighting teams continue efforts to contain the blaze.
Local authorities reported Friday that the fires have spread across an estimated 240 hectares and advanced rapidly, prompting the temporary closure of several roads as a precautionary measure.
The fire department stated that more than 1,000 firefighters were deployed to control the flames, with one firefighter sustaining minor injuries during the operation.
Approximately 150 residents were evacuated from nearby areas to safer locations, while others were advised to remain indoors to avoid potential risks.
Wildfires come amid a severe heatwave affecting the region, which has heightened the risk of forest fires during the summer season. (QNA)
