5.4-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Western Chile
Santiago, May 18 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck western Chile on Monday.
The epicenter was at a depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
In 2010, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake, followed by a tsunami, struck central and southern Chile, killing 500 people.
Chile lies in the Ring of Fire, an arc of fault lines encircling the Pacific Ocean basin, prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. (QNA)
