Doha, January 18 (QNA) - The Bone and Joint Center at Hamad Medical Cooperation (HMC) has opened a multidisciplinary clinic to provide health care for orthopedic patients suffering from orthopedic complications of hemophilia and reduce complications of musculoskeletal diseases. Senior Consultant and Head of Orthopedic Surgery Department at HMC Mohamed Mubarak Al Ateeq Al-Dossary said that Hemophilia is a chronic disease needs treatment by a multidisciplinary medical team, adding that the importance of the new clinic provides the patient with health care by a team with extensive experience in treating musculoskeletal and associated diseases in a highly organized environment that hardly found in elsewhere. For his part, a co-consultant at the Orthopedic Center Dr Hasan Azzam Abu Hejleh said that hemophilia is a rare genetic disorder disease in which the blood doesn't clot normally. He pointed out that when a hemophilia patient is bleeding, due to an injury or wound in his body, this bleeding takes a relatively long period of time to stop compared to the healthy person, and the patient may experience internal bleeding, especially in the knee, ankle and elbows, which may lead to damage to the organs and tissues of the body. Dr Abu Hejleh explained that despite the rare cases, hemophilia type (A) occurs in 1 out of 10,000, while hemophilia type (B), occurs in 1 out of 50,000. The new clinic helps hemophilia patients benefit from treatment plans that are developed to suit the individual patient's condition. It also provides patients with high-quality health care services that include multiple medical specialties including orthopedics and physiotherapy, all in the same place. (QNA)
