School Bus Crash Kills 19 Students in Uganda
Kampala, July 17 (QNA) - A school bus crash in eastern Uganda killed 19 schoolchildren and injured more than 60 others.
Ugandan media, citing local authorities, reported that the bus was carrying students returning from a school trip when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus veered off the road and overturned in the Chekwatit area.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that a mechanical failure may have been the likely cause of the accident, adding that dozens of the injured remain hospitalized.
Chekwatit Hill is considered one of the most dangerous roads in Uganda, having witnessed repeated fatal traffic accidents.
The police have once again urged passenger bus operators to ensure their vehicles are mechanically roadworthy before operating. (QNA)
