GCC Denounces targeting Makkah Al Mukarramah
Riyadh, September 16 (QNA) - The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has condemned the Houthi group's treacherous attempt to target Makkah Al Mukarramah with a drone.
This act represents an extremely dangerous escalation, a crossing of all lines and boundaries, and a blatant violation of the sanctity of the holiest place on earth and the Qibla of Muslims, GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said in a statement Wednesday.
Albudaiwi added that this aggression, once again, reveals an extremist approach that shows no regard for the sanctity of holy sites or the safety of civilians, and requires a firm and deterrent international stance to put an end to these violations and hold those responsible accountable.
Any threat to Makkah Al Mukarramah, its sanctity and its security is not an attack on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia alone, but an extremely dangerous provocation to the feelings of Muslims around the world, affirming that targeting holy sites represents a dangerous level of escalation that cannot be tolerated, the GCC Secretary General stressed.
He underlined that the GCC states stand united alongside Saudi Arabia, and that the security of the Kingdom and its holy sites is an integral part of the security of the GCC states.
Albudaiwi renewed the Council's full support for all measures and procedures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its territory, holy sites, citizens and residents, and to deter anyone who attempts to undermine its security and stability. (QNA)
