Mamuka Bakhtadze Named as Georgia's New Prime Minister
Tbilisi, June 16 (QNA) - President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili has officially confirmed the nomination of Mamuka Bakhtadze for the country's premiership three days after the resignation of former prime minister, Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
"Under Article 80 of the Georgian constitution, Mamuka Bakhtadze, put forward by the parliamentary majority, will be confirmed as a candidate for the premiership", says a Georgia presidential decree.
Mamuka Bakhtadze, 36, was nominated by the Georgian Dream ruling party as a candidate for the office of prime minister after former PM Giorgi Kvirikashvili resigned on June 13 due to controversies on fundamental issues with the ruling party.
According to the Georgian Constitution, the new Prime Minister will be required to submit his cabinet members and draft program within seven days to the parliament, which will in turn have to consider the list of nominating ministers and discuss and approve the government's draft within one week after receiving support from more than half the parliament members.
