5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Northern Philippines
Manila, July 15 (QNA) - An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck Tuesday Ilocos Norte province in northern Philippines.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the earthquake occurred 430 km from the Pasuquin area in the province, at a depth of 430 km.
There have been no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake so far.
The Philippines experiences increased volcanic and seismic activity due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates intersect.
The last major earthquake to hit the Philippines was in October 2013, when it measured 7.1 on the Richter scale and killed more than 220 people. (QNA)
