Prime Minister Inaugurates Al Daayen Naval Base

Doha, July 14 (QNA) - HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani inaugurated Sunday Al Daayen Naval Base, the new building of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, in Sumaysimah area in northern Qatar. The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies the Ministers, senior officials, Ambassadors accredited to the State and guests of the country. The ceremony included a documentary film about the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security, its stages of development, potentials, specialties, its role in securing maritime borders and preventing smuggling and illegal migration, its search and rescue operations, and other specialties. During the ceremony, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior inaugurated a number of new naval boats belonging to the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security. HE also witnessed a presentation by the Department's search and rescue team. HE then toured a number of new buildings of the Department, during which he was briefed on the most important modern facilities and equipment that are compatible with the nature of the coastal and border security tasks, and raises the level of performance to meet the requirements of maritime security. Built on a total area of 639,800 square meters, Al Daayen Naval Base is located in the middle of the country's eastern coast, in order to facilitate the securing of all territorial waters of the State and border posts. 

The base includes all the advanced requirements for marine security, which will contribute to securing the maritime borders of the State and tightening the security control and protection of all its coasts by conducting maritime patrols to prevent infiltration and smuggling of prohibited materials and control maritime violations, as well as providing marine services to citizens and residents at the same level in term of performance efficiency. The base was established according to a model that takes into account the functions and competences of the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security. It accommodates all its units, as well as a sophisticated seaport with a depth of 6 meters besides other sports, training and medical facilities, civil defense, manufacturing and maintenance workshops, operating rooms, officers' accommodation and other facilities.
