US CPI Rises 0.4% Over Higher Oil Prices
Washington, September 11 (QNA) - US consumer price index rose 0.4 percent in August, accelerating from a 0.1 percent increase in July, driven mainly by higher petrol prices, according to the Labor Department.
Annual consumer inflation stood at 3.4 percent unchanged from July, while core inflation eased to 2.4 percent from 2.5 percent.
The data, along with a rise in producer prices reported on Thursday, has increased expectations that the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at its meeting next week. (QNA)
