New York, July 11 (QNA) - The main indices on Wall Street closed higher Thursday, reflecting investor optimism across the U.S. stock market.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose by 16.44 points, or 0.26 percent, to close at 6,279.70. The Nasdaq Composite Index also edged higher, gaining 20.03 points, or 0.10 percent, to reach 20,631.37. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average recorded a stronger performance, climbing 189.27 points, or 0.43 percent, to settle at 44,647.57.
