Doha, October 11 (QNA) - Here is a summary of local news released on Friday:

- HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to HE President of the Republic of Fiji Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu on the occasion of his country's Independence Day.

- HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to HE President of the Republic of Fiji Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu on the occasion of his country's Independence Day.

- HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani sent a cable of congratulations to HE Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji Sitiveni Rabuka on the occasion of his country's Independence Day.

- HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received a phone call on Friday from HE Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres.

- HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Thani, who is visiting Washington, met with HE US Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth.

- The State of Qatar has welcomed the adoption by the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), at its 110th session, of the decision entitled "Accelerated Destruction of Any Remaining Chemical Weapons in the Syrian Arab Republic." The decision was adopted by consensus among the member states.

- The State of Qatar, represented by its National Committee for Counter-Terrorism, participated in the 28th Arab Conference of Counter-Terrorism Officials, held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunis. The conference brought together representatives from Arab countries and the Arab League.

- The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Interior, participated in the third meeting of the 2025 drafting team of the GCC Interior Ministries, held at the headquarters of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh.

- The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara will launch the third edition of the Katara Book Fair from October 13 to 19, as part of the 11th Katara Festival for Arabic Novel.

- The second day of the Aspetar World Conference on Precision Athlete Health and Performance brought together leading international and regional experts to showcase the latest innovations and advancements in sports medicine and athlete care.

- The FIVB U18 Beach Volleyball World Championships, hosted by Qatar at the Al Gharafa Beach Courts with the participation of 64 teams from 55 countries, received great praise from the participating delegations for the high level of organization and the outstanding readiness of all the tournament facilities.
