Details of World Electronic Basketball Championship Finals in Doha Unveiled
Doha, June 28 (QNA) - The organizing committee for the finals of the World Electronic Basketball Championship - Qatar Season 4 unveiled the details of the tournament, which will be staged at Qatar Mall from July 3-4, 2026.
This was announced during a press conference held at the Qatar Olympic Committee's premises, by Executive Director of the Communications and Guest Relations Committee of the Local Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, Abdullah Ali Al Mawlawi and Director of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027, Predrag Bogosavljev, alongside a number of officials.
Al Mawlawi said the finals of this tournament represent a consequential milestone in Qatar's path toward consolidating the status of modern basketball and strengthening its global presence.
He added that the tournament will feature the participation of eight national teams from around the world, divided into two groups. The first group includes Algeria, France, Germany, and the Philippines, while the second group includes Qatar, the Dominican Republic, Lebanon, and Turkiye.
Each team, Al Mawlawi highlighted, is represented by five players, bringing the total number of participants to 40 players.
Al Mulla further noted that the total prize pool of the tournament amounts to USD 50,000, distributed across team and individual awards, with the first-place winner receiving USD 20,000, the second place USD 10,000, the third place USD 6,000, and the fourth place USD 4,000.
He explained that the tournament will also feature an array of individual awards, including Best Defensive Player, Best Finals Player, and the selection of a Five-Man All-Star Team.
The prize money for these categories will be distributed as follows: USD 2,500 for both the Best Finals Player and Best Defensive Player awards, and USD 1,000 for each player selected to the All-Star Five, Al Mulla noted.
Al Mawlawi concluded by emphasizing that the event is the epitome of sustainability in electronic basketball through talent skill refinement and the creation of a competitive environment for future generations, commending the efforts made to ensure the success of the tournament.
For his part, Bogosavljev said the finals hosted by Qatar represent an ideal bridge between the traditional basketball community and the new generation of esports enthusiasts.
This event also represents an important milestone on the path to hosting the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, Bogosavljev said, adding that it contributes to accelerating preparations for the tournament and drawing new audiences, amid the nation's readiness to welcome the global basketball community.
Bogosavljev noted that Qatar's hosting of these finals for two consecutive years, as the first country to do so, once again reflects its commitment to advancing both basketball and esports.
By and large, the selection of Qatar to host the event comes in light of its preparations to host the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027, as well as its augmented experience in organizing major sporting events and its growing role in the esports sector.
In addition, these finals are the official championship of FIBA, representing the digital version of international competitions, where players compete via the NBA 2K platform representing their national teams. (QNA)
