New 5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, January 11 (QNA) - A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Ethiopia Saturday, with no immediate reports of casualties.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) stated that the earthquake shook the area east of the capital, Addis Ababa, early this morning.
In a report, the center noted that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Since the beginning of 2025, Ethiopia has experienced multiple earthquakes, with several regions in the country witnessing increased seismic activity.
Ethiopia lies within the East African Rift system, a geologically active area prone to periodic earthquakes due to tectonic movements. (QNA)
