Israel's Execution Law of Palestinian Prisoners Tests International Community (Report)
Gaza, March 31 (QNA) - The Israeli Knesset's approval of a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners has triggered widespread anger and deep concern among Palestinians, especially families in Gaza Strip.
Rights groups warned of its serious implications for regional stability and called for urgent international action, describing it as a crime against humanity and a violation of international conventions protecting detainees.
Several countries and organizations condemned the law, urging the international community to fulfill its legal and humanitarian responsibilities and confront unlawful practices against Palestinians.
Speaking to Qatar news Agency (QNA), families and experts expressed shock and fear for prisoners' lives, citing enforced disappearance and uncertainty over their fate.
Asmaa Al Hatto, wife of prisoner Diaa Al-Dahdouh, said the law has intensified families' anxiety and psychological suffering.
Former prisoner Ahmed Al-Masri described the law as a grave humanitarian violation and a challenge to international agreements, especially the Geneva Conventions.
He said it reflects moral and legal failure but will not break prisoners' will despite its psychological impact, calling for unified Palestinian efforts and international pressure to stop it.
Director of the Waed Association for Prisoners and Freed Prisoners in northern Gaza Strip Musbah Abd Rabbo said the law requires a unified Arab and Islamic stance, calling for public pressure to stop it and stressing that prisoners sacrificed for their people.
He described it as a criminal act reflecting a shift toward harsher treatment and disregard for international laws protecting detainees.
Researcher Hilal Nassar warned that the law is a blatant violation of international law and contradicts the Geneva Conventions.
He said it is discriminatory, could amount to a war crime, and effectively makes prisoners' lives expendable, raising concern over its use as a political tool.
The law, passed by the Knesset with support from Itamar Ben-Gvir and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is part of an escalation targeting Palestinian detainees, allowing execution under certain conditions.
Arab and international bodies, including the Gulf Cooperation Council, the League of Arab States, and the European Commission, strongly rejected the decision, warning it violates international humanitarian law and undermines justice. (QNA)
