Beirut, August 13 (QNA) - Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun stressed the need to protect Lebanon amid developments in the region and underscored the significance of continuing reforms despite the challenges facing the country.

In a statement issued by the Lebanese Presidency's Press Office, Aoun noted that a package of reforms is being implemented despite the war in southern Lebanon. He said a ceasefire would allow the country to take a different path and improve its situation.

Aoun stressed that Lebanon cannot afford to stand idle in the face of its challenges, noting that addressing the effects of 40 years of corruption and mismanagement cannot be achieved overnight.

He added that his visit to Washington and the resumption of air routes between Lebanon and the United States had helped strengthen international confidence in Lebanon. He also pointed to efforts to hold an economic conference in Washington to encourage companies to invest in the electricity, telecommunications, public works, and infrastructure sectors.

The Lebanese President affirmed that economic stability remains a priority, noting that it requires political and security stability. He described the situation in Lebanon as very good and said the country's crime rate is among the lowest in the world. (QNA)
