1000th Match Disarrays German Calculations Post-World Cup Exist
Berlin, December 04 (QNA) - Germany's early exit from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has caused confusion in the German Football Association (DFB)'s preparations in terms of the time and place of the national squads celebration of the 1,000th match in its history.
The German Press Agency (DPA)'s report stated Sunday that the German national football team was eager to go far in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, especially since it was planned to have a big and historic celebration of its 1,000th international match, during the World Cup campaign. The team's failure and exit from the group stage put this celebration in a real pickle.
The German national team has so far played 997 international matches, with the expectation that its 1,000th match would have been in the semi-finals of the World Cup. Given that the team left the tournament from the first round, its 1000th match is likely going to be one of the friendly matches taking place mid-2023, which may lose the celebration much of its luster.
The date, location, or match opponent, in which the German national team will celebrate the Millennium Match, has not yet been decided, with expectations suggesting that it could take place in June.
In March, the German squad will play the first two matches in preparation for the UEFA Euro 2024 Germany.
Due to the fact that Germany is the host country for Euro 2024, the German national football team will not compete in the qualifiers, yet the team will play ten friendly matches in 2023, starting with two matches: March 22 and 28.
The German national team will not have any official matches until UEFA Euro 2024 kicks off, scheduled from June 14 to July 14, 2024, due to its defeat to Hungary from the UEFA Nations League by a goal to null, confirming Germany's absence from the tournament's finals.
