Doha, September 07 (QNA) - HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and Chairman of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law (NCIHL), and Chair of the Arab Permanent Committee for International Humanitarian Law, Saeed bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, expressed his pride in the confidence granted by Arab national committees in selecting him as chair of the inaugural session.

Al Suwaidi told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that this incredible feat comes in recognition of the State of Qatar's efforts to support the ethos of peace, justice and humanity, promote respect for international law and the protection of civilian and human dignity, and back efforts exerted to mitigate the impact of armed conflicts.

The significance of this feat isn't merely confined to Qatar's presiding over the Arab Permanent IHL Committee but rather lies in the fact that Qatar has spearheaded its establishment, along with the Arab efforts that culminated in the unanimous approval of the  creation of this panel as part of the Arab League, the Undersecretary underlined.

Al Suwaidi noted that today Qatar chairs the committee's inaugural session since its establishment, a move that conspicuously demonstrates the nation's powerful presence and capability to turn initiatives into enduring Arab institutions.

Al Suwaidi further noted that this creation an incredibly important historic Arab achievement as a permanent institutional framework within the League's system that combines Arab national committees, fosters collaborative efforts and facilitates the exchange of expertise.

This framework unlocks new prospects for Arab nations to combine their efforts when it comes to promoting the culture of international humanitarian law, as well as respect for its rules and provisions, Al Suwaidi pointed out.

  Al Suwaidi reemphasized that, through this chairmanship, the State of Qatar will work to reinforce collaborative and combined efforts among Arab national committees, share expertise and build capacities, thereby helping spread the culture of international humanitarian law nationally, in addition to strengthening awareness of its provisions and principles and respect for its rules.

What matters most here is to unify the Arab position when it comes to issues related to this law, Al Suwaidi recalled, stating that it is imperative to strengthen Arab presence in relevant regional and global venues so as to underline shared humanitarian principles and values and help protect civilians and those battered by armed conflicts.

Lastly, the HE the undersecretary asserted that today Qatar isn't merely chairing a committee it contributed to creating, but rather taking on the mantle of a new Arab framework whose launch and establishment Qatar spearheaded.

He asserted that, in collaboration with the brotherly Arab nations, the State of Qatar will ensure that this chairmanship serves as a leapfrog toward a more integrated and influential phase in joint Arab action in the field of international humanitarian law, serving people, protecting civilians and deepening the values of justice, mercy and human dignity.
