Damascus, September 29 (QNA) - Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al Shaibani discussed Wednesday with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas ways to strengthen Syria-EU relationship and support stability, recovery, and reconstruction in Syria, along with political and security developments in the region.
In a joint press conference, Al Shaibani said he and Kallas agreed to prepare a joint scope paper before the end of the first quarter of next year as a prelude to a new partnership agreement that would replace the 1977 agreement, in addition to including Syria in the EU's multiannual financial framework for 2028-2034.
He called on the EU to take a resolute position toward Israeli offensives and tighten the screws on Israel to pull out its troops to the Dec. 8, 2024, lines, stressing that the Golan is Syrian territory.
For her part, Kallas stressed the importance of a successful political transition in Syria, noting European efforts to normalize relations and support the banking sector, the economy, recovery, and reconstruction.
She declared that the EU would provide a 60.2 million-Euro grant for recovery and strengthening of institutions, affirming that the EU is inclined to hold a new dialogue with Damascus ahead of next summer and to infuse more investment. (QNA)
