QNL Unveils World's First Innovative Accessible Digital Kiosk
Doha, September 29 (QNA) - Qatar National Library (QNL) has launched the Accessible Digital Kiosk, providing people with disabilities a more inclusive experience of the Library's heritage collections.
Funded by the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation(QRDI) Council, this first and only device of its kind was developed and launched in collaboration with Mada Assistive Technology Center to transform how historical archives are experienced, said QNL's press release, Tuesday.
Through this kiosk, over 100 selected items from the Heritage Library that may otherwise be difficult for some visitors to access are brought to life through multidimensional, inclusive formats, including Braille interfaces and highly detailed tactile representations.
To ensure greater accessibility for people who are hearing impaired, the kiosk integrates advanced sign-language content featuring "Bo-Hamad," Mada's specialized Qatari Sign Language avatar. By combining these assistive technologies, the kiosk delivers a holistic experience of the Library's historical collections.
"The Accessible Digital Kiosk embodies our commitment to accessibility and inclusion," said Patron Experience Specialist in the Strategic Planning and Projects Department at QNL Fatima Mohammed Al Sada.
She added, "By integrating innovative technology with our historical archives, we are ensuring that all members of our community can experience, learn from, and be inspired by these invaluable collections."
In turn, Senior Program Director - Innovation Development and Adoption Programs at QRDI Council Nada Al Olaqi said, "The Digital Accessible Kiosk is a strong example of how collaboration between national institutions and innovators can transform an idea into a practical solution with tangible societal value."
"Through our Open Innovation program, we are proud to have supported the development and real-world validation of this technology. We look forward to seeing its impact extend beyond this initial deployment and contribute to more inclusive experiences in Qatar, across the region, and around the world," Al Olaqi added.
The Accessible Digital Kiosk is now available at QNL, representing a major milestone in making cultural heritage more accessible to all. (QNA)
