Muscat, September 29 (QNA) - The Sultanate of Oman has stressed the importance of determining responsibilities and strengthening follow-up and accountability pertaining to the unlawful activities that support Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territory.
In its remarks during the general debate under Agenda Item 7 of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council on the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories, convened in Geneva, the Sultanate of Oman pointed out that it regrettably monitors the ongoing humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, as well as the devastation, displacement, and growing humanitarian needs resulting from the war.
It noted that these humanitarian needs require an urgent and sustainable international response, alongside worrisome developments, including the expansion of settlements, incursions, settler violence, land confiscation, and displacement in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
Oman decried the persistent occupation of the Syrian Golan, as well as the recent Israeli incursions and attacks in Syria, reemphasizing the importance of respecting Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, abiding by international law, and upholding the Charter of the United Nations.
In addition, Oman highlighted that the magnitude of violations and challenges besetting the Palestinian people prompts an international position that goes beyond condemnation to encompass practical and powerful steps that ensure accountability.
It explained that no enduring peace can be achieved as impunity prevails, stressing that the rules of international law must not remain hostage to selective application. (QNA)
