Doha, September 22 (QNA) - The Theater Affairs Center of the Ministry of Culture held a panel discussion Tuesday on heritage theater in Qatar, examining its role as a living part of the country's cultural memory and its evolution into contemporary forms.
The panel, part of a series of cultural events organized by the ministry, was moderated by Qatari media personality Mohammed Al Hammadi and explored the history of heritage theater and its role in shaping Qatar's local theater scene, tracing its development from its earliest experiments to the present.
Artist Saad Al Bourshaid traced the major artistic milestones of heritage theater in Qatar from the early 1970s to the present, highlighting key theatrical figures who helped shape the genre and establish its place in the country's arts scene.
He also discussed Qatari theater's foremost international appearances in heritage theater, along with the recognition and awards earned by Qatari theater artists at those events. 
Al Bourshaid highlighted the use of the Qatari dialect in heritage theater productions and its importance in preserving each work's distinctive character and local identity.
The panel also examined ways to advance heritage theater, including key artistic terminology associated with the genre and prominent productions that marked important milestones in the trajectory of Qatari heritage theater.
The discussion formed part of the Theater Affairs Center's broader efforts to strengthen Qatar's theatrical and cultural movement, give artists and theater enthusiasts an opportunity to explore local theatrical experiences, and shed light on the country's national theatrical memory.
The initiative also seeks to preserve Qatar's theatrical heritage and draw on it to develop contemporary artistic experiences. (QNA)
