European Stocks Close Higher Supported by Declining Oil Prices
Brussels, September 21 (QNA) - European stocks closed trading on Monday on an upward trend, supported by a fourth consecutive session of declining oil prices and gains in the technology and banking sectors.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose by 1 percent to 642.07 points, marking its largest daily gain since early July.
In the major European markets, the DAX index in Germany advanced 1.07 percent, the French CAC 40 index increased by 0.92 percent, the British FTSE 100 gained 0.75 percent, and the Italian FTSE MIB index posted a rise of 1.60 percent.
Technology and banking stocks led the winning sectors, each climbing roughly 1.7 percent, driven by increased demand for shares of companies linked to the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industries, while energy sector stocks declined by roughly 0.8 percent as oil prices continued to fall.
Markets received support from oil prices falling to their lowest levels in approximately 12 days, with Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate dropping below $100 per barrel during the session, amid signs of some improvement in supplies and hopes for diplomatic progress regarding tensions in the Middle East.
Investor attention this week is directed toward the anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, seeking indicators regarding the future of trade relations between the two countries and prospects for the global economy. (QNA)
