Tunis, September 16 (QNA) - The final statement of the ALECSO conference on Palestinian childhood has called for establishing an Arab mechanism to monitor and document Israeli educational and cultural violations against Palestinian children.
The conference was organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) under the title "Palestinian Childhood under Israeli Occupation: Monitoring Educational and Cultural Violations and Strengthening Protection and Resilience Mechanisms."
Participants have recommended giving Palestinian children special attention within ALECSO's areas of responsibility and looking into launching various initiatives for their benefit.
These include supporting education continuity, addressing learning loss, providing education during emergencies, offering psychosocial support, and reintegrating children returning from detention.
The final statement has stressed the need to protect Palestinian identity, culture, and heritage, and to support cultural and artistic programs targeting children, in addition to conducting studies on the educational, psychological, and social impact of the occupation on Palestinian children.
The conference has discussed the situation of Palestinian children, particularly those in detention, as well as education in times of crisis, identity, culture and memory, and tracks for psychological recovery from trauma.
It has also highlighted the educational, cultural, legal, psychological, and media dimensions of the type of challenges and violations facing Palestinian children.
Participants have emphasized the need to strengthen coordination among relevant Palestinian, Arab, and international institutions working in education, culture, and children's rights. (QNA)
