London, August 05 (QNA) - Newcastle United announced today the appointment of Matthias Jaissle as the club's new head coach, succeeding Eddie Howe, who has left his position.
In a statement published on its official website, the club said Jaissle will take charge of the team for the upcoming season and the following campaign. He replaces Howe, whose five-year spell at the club has come to an end after overseeing a period of domestic and European success before the team's decline in domestic form last season. The statement added that Newcastle is looking forward to a new phase in which it aims to achieve success in the Premier League and European competitions.
Jaissle, 38, is a former Germany Under-21 international. He previously managed Al Ahli Saudi FC, leading the club to back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles in 2025 and 2026, as well as the Saudi Super Cup in 2025.
He also took charge of Red Bull Salzburg in 2021, guiding the Austrian club to two consecutive Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup triumph.
Newcastle finished 12th in the Premier League last season but reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals before being eliminated by Barcelona.
The club will begin its 2026-27 Premier League campaign against Liverpool on Aug. 23 in the opening round of the season. (QNA)
