Paris, August 04 (QNA) - The Musee de Grenoble in France's Isere department has stepped up security measures following a robbery attempt involving two individuals who tried to break into the museum's northwestern wing by smashing a window.

However, a security guard remained focused and responded immediately after the alarm system went off, forcing the perpetrators to flee before police arrived.

Authorities are currently examining surveillance camera recordings, alongside a handheld lantern the thieves left behind.

According to a security source, the perpetrators had previously cased the building, apparently targeting one of the museum's most prestigious galleries, which houses some of the world's finest artworks, including Pablo Picasso's Woman Reading (1920), donated to the city in 1921.

This incident spotlights the recent rise in museum heists in France, the previous one having targeted the Louvre in October 2025.

French cultural institutions have faced mounting security threats, with three museum break-ins recorded in just one month.

The Musee de Grenoble has now joined a growing list of recent targets that includes the Louvre, the Musee du Pays Chatillonnais - Tresor de Vix and the Musee Lalique, following the high-profile theft of the Vix gold torque from the Lady of Vix's fifth-century BC tomb in July. (QNA)
