Beijing, August 24 (QNA) - Jordan and China affirmed the importance of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran and reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses all the root causes of tension, emphasizing the need to restore normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a joint statement issued on Monday at the conclusion of talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and King Abdullah II of Jordan in Beijing, the two sides also stressed the necessity of consolidating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the immediate, sufficient, and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid.

They clarified that any arrangements regarding Gaza must guarantee Palestinian self-governance, enable Palestinians to manage their own affairs, preserve the unity of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to enable it to fulfill its mandate according to its UN mandate.

The two sides expressed their deep concern regarding the dangerous Israeli escalation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, including increased settler violence, land confiscation, settlement construction and expansion, and attempts to alter the historical and legal status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

They affirmed the invalidity of all illegal measures aimed at annexing the occupied West Bank or any part thereof, which constitute a violation of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. In this context, they emphasized that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace, and stressed the necessity of taking practical steps, according to a clear timetable, to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

They also affirmed their commitment to preserving the international system in which the United Nations plays a pivotal role, and to upholding the international order based on international law and the fundamental principles governing international relations, in accordance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.

They stressed the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, the principles of good-neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs, and resolving disputes between states through dialogue and diplomacy. They also emphasized the necessity of respecting international humanitarian law and avoiding the politicization of human rights issues.

During their talks, Chinese President Xi Jinping and King Abdullah II of Jordan emphasized that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace. The talks also touched on other regional tensions, with both sides emphasizing the importance of adhering to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and reaching a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of tension through dialogue and negotiation.

In this context, both parties stressed the importance of the Strait of Hormuz as a vital international waterway for trade in goods and energy, and the necessity of restoring normal navigation through it. (QNA)
