Cairo, Aug. 20 (QNA) - The Arab League affirmed that the Israeli occupation continues to act as a rogue state, blatantly disregarding international law, its rules, and norms, and repeatedly violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states in the absence of international deterrence and accountability.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy said that the international community's continued silence and lack of effective accountability encourage Israel to persist in operating outside the framework of the law.

He stressed that this approach not only threatens the region's countries but also undermines the credibility of the entire international legal system and entrenches the logic of force as a substitute for international legitimacy.

He added that recent events in the region provide further evidence of the danger of this approach, pointing to the continued implementation of the "E1" settlement project in the occupied West Bank and the issuance of a tender to construct new settlement units.

This aims to impose new geographical and demographic realities, divide the West Bank, and isolate East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings. He also cited the recent Israeli aggression against Syrian territory and the ongoing Israeli raids and shelling of Lebanese territory.

The statement stressed that these violations cannot be viewed as isolated incidents or justified under any security pretext. Rather, they reflect a continuous approach based on using force, imposing a fait accompli, and violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

It noted that Security Council Resolution 2334 of 2016 affirmed the illegality of all Israeli measures aimed at altering the composition, character, and status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

The statement called on the Security Council to take a clear and firm stance to halt all settlement activities, which clearly aim to eliminate any possibility of establishing a contiguous and independent Palestinian state.

The statement called on the Security Council and the international community to assume their responsibilities and take practical steps to stop these violations and end the policy of impunity. (QNA)
