Armed Attack in Nigeria's Plateau State Kills Up to 24 Civilians
Abuja, August 18 (QNA) - An armed attack erupted in a village in Nigeria's central Plateau state, killing 23 people, while another person later died in hospital, Limon Lian Eliya, a member of the local council representing the area, said Tuesday.
Village residents said armed men attacked the area, moving from house to house and killing residents with machetes. They said most of the victims were women and children.
Meanwhile, Alfred Alabo, a spokesman for the Plateau police, said officers had been deployed to the area to conduct the necessary investigations and would release their findings later.
The incident underscores ongoing insecurity in Plateau state, where tensions between farming communities and herders often spiral into reprisal violence, leaving people dead, displacing residents and leaving them homeless. (QNA)
